We invite you to join us for the 30th annual
College Hill Arts Festival, which will be held July 18-19, 2008 on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa at the shady corner of College and 23rd Streets. In 2005, and again in 2007, the College Hill Arts Festival was named to Sunshine Artist magazine’s list of ‘100 Best Fine Arts & Design Shows’ in the United States. Also, the Cedar Valley Tourism Bureaus named the Festival the 2006 Event of the Year.

Each year 75 talented artists are hand-selected by three independent jurors whose task it is to fill the Festival with high quality art that demonstrates original design and unique representation of the chosen medium. These juried artists will exhibit and sell their original artwork in categories including jewelry, sculpture, painting, pastel, ceramics, graphics/printmaking, mixed media, fiber, photography, glass, and wood.

The Festival Turns 30
In 1979, under the visionary leadership of Hugh Pettersen, the sidewalks of the College Hill business district came alive with artists. In the years that followed, the Festival has grown to be a signature event in the State of Iowa. The Festival is run entirely by volunteers whose main goal is to make fine art readily accessible to the public. Each year, the Festival showcases 75 talented artists who turn the corner of 23rd & College Streets in to a museum. These artists have come to Cedar falls from 13 states to give you, our patrons, and the very best art experience possible. Please make these wonderful artists feels welcome by stopping by their booths to enjoy their art. And remember, anything you like you can buy and take home with you to enjoy forever! The College Hill Arts Festival appreciates the continued support of our generous corporate sponsors and volunteers who contribute their time and effort to ensure a high quality Festival. In addition, The Festival is grateful for the tremendous support of the entire Cedar Valley and also our Special Patrons Program whose purchases exceeded $27,000 last year.

Complimenting the artists’ exhibits will be a variety of musical groups performing on stage; a hands-on creative activity for children sponsored by the Hearst Center for the Arts; and the Young Art Collectors Gallery which features original artwork created by exhibiting artists with prices of $5 or less and encourages children [ages 14 & under] to make independent choices about art. There will also be a variety of food vendors to entice Festival attendees. Picnic tables will be located near the food booth and the Performing Arts Stage. And, our trademark balloon arches add to the festivities!

For the 24th consecutive year Gary Kelley, internationally recognized illustrator from Cedar Falls, designed the Festival poster. Kelley received the award for "Best Layout & Presentation" from Sunshine Artist magazine for the poster he created for the 2005 Festival and "Best Use of Color" for his 2006 poster.

SIDEBAR
Gary Kelley will again create a special design for this year's 30th Celebration. The original will be for sale to the highest bidder. Sealed bids will be accepted at Henry W. Myrtle Gallery, 915 West 23rd Street, Cedar Falls where the original will be on display starting in early July.

Uncle Chuck writes songs about life, love, guitars, cats, grandmas, veterans, cowboys, joy, sorrow, social situations and anything else that occurs to him. You never know! Come find out why KUNI Radio once described Chuck as “having a keen ear and a slightly warped sense of humor.”

The Latin-tinged music they perform, usually found in the clubs of New York City, L.A. or Miami, has secured them a reputation as one of the hottest bands in the Midwest. This strange mix of “salsa” and tall corn works because of the years of musical experience the band members bring to the group, and because of their love for the music. Once exposed to this vibrant, pulsating music, people find it so irresistible their feet won’t keep still!
