Presenter: Dr. Sarah Clunis from Cornell College
Thursday, October 16, 2008; 7:00 p.m. at the University Museum
Assistant Professor of Art Sarah Clunis specializes in art from colonial societies.
With a degree in African art, she has worked with collections of African and
Pre-Columbian art internationally, most recently as curator of African Art at the
University of Iowa Museum of Art. Clunis will give a presentation on the meaning
behind masks and sculptures and their use in African ceremonies.

Family Fun Day: A Visit To Africa!
Saturday, October 25, 2008; 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the University Museum
With the theme “A Visit To Africa,” families will enjoy African music, make African masks, encounter
African animals on a safari scavenger hunt, learn African dances, locate African cultures on a giant

Adinkra Workshop
Thursday, November 6, 2008; 7 p.m. at the University Museum
Attendees will learn about the Ashanti culture in Ghana and the beauty and symbolism
of its fabric stamping technique known as adinkra. Attendees will decorate canvas
bags with their choice of adinkra symbols and design patterns. Cost is $10 per person.

Wood Carver: Scott Hudson
Thursday, December 11, 2008; 7 p.m. at the University Museum
Scott Hudson is a professional artist and carver whose work has been exhibited in museums and
galleries. Hudson will demonstrate carving as well as discuss the role of carvers in African cultures.
